ABOUT
Edussentials is a Limited Liability Company (LLC) organized in Franklin Count, Ohio. Edussentials was formed in the summer of 2006 in order to provide Supplemental Educational Services to public school students in Ohio as required by provisions of the No Child Left Behind legislation.
The organizing member of the LLC is Michael Barnes. Mr. Barnes is an experienced mathematics teacher and tutor with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from The Ohio State University.
Our tutors are employees of the company, not volunteers or contractors and are subjected to full background checks prior to employment. This insures their professional performance. We do not retain tutors who are unable to fulfill their professional obligations to you and your student. Tutors employed by Edussentials are well qualified to provide instruction in reading and mathematics. All of our tutors have college degrees and/or have valid licenses as teachers or instructional aides from the Ohio Department of Education. Many of our tutors have or are pursuing advanced degrees.

PHILOSOPHY
A careful look at our company logo provides some insights into our philosophy of education. We firmly believe that real education must address all three of the words contained in the rings.
Knowledge Certainly, education must impart knowledge to students. However, contrary to popular belief, knowledge is NOT power.
Understanding Knowledge that is not understood is of little or no use to anyone. Knowledge must exist in a context and students must be able to connect that knowledge to their own experiences in order for that knowledge to become useful.
Application Education is of little use if it does not allow us to accomplish things that we could not have accomplished otherwise. We must be able to take the knowledge we have gained, and through our understanding of it, apply it to the achievement of a goal.
Finally, this is not a linear process. The three aspects of education described above happen one at a time, two at a time or all at once and in no particular order, depending on the situation. That is why these words are placed on the rings you see in our logo. They rings are a very special mathematical construct known as Borromean Rings. The significance of these rings is that not two rings are directly connected to each other. If any one ring is cut apart and removed, the entire structure comes apart. Similarly, if any of the three aspects of education outlined here are left out of consideration, the entire idea of education falls apart. All three are vital and must be addressed.
SERVICES
Edussentials provides Supplemental Educational Services to eligible students at struggling public schools as required by No Child Left Behind. Please contact your child’s school for eligibility information and enrollment procedures. Since our services are paid for by your child’s school system, we are unable to enroll you directly. We offer two types of tutoring services:
In-person small group instruction: (Only available in Central Ohio at this time)
With this service, your child will meet in person with a tutor and a small number of other students at the same grade level. Meetings will be held at local libraries or other public places. The tutor will provide instruction on topics that are aligned with your child’s classroom work, Ohio Academic Content Standards, and their own personal needs. Our tutors will assess your students progress and collaborate with their classroom teacher in order to determine what material is covered. Parents and teachers are provided with bi-weekly updates on student performance, either in writing or by e-mail as requested.
Internet Based Instruction: (Requires regular access to a computer with high speed internet access)
With this service, your child will participate in an internet based curriculum. As with our small group tutoring, tutors will assess your child’s performance and collaborate with their classroom teacher to determine what lessons are most appropriate to their needs. A custom program of lessons will then be tailored to your student’s needs and updated throughout the year. In addition to this online system, your student will also have access to a discussion board and e-mail to get individual help from the tutor. Regular interaction with a real tutor through e-mail or the website is expected. Teachers, students and parents can monitor progress through an extensive online reporting system. In addition, the tutor will provide parents and teachers with bi-weekly updates on student progress.
